Tools for Learning: Vocabulary Flashcards!
🪶 Having an expansive vocabulary bank can help children during their PSLE English examination, where a well-placed word can boost one’s score, especially during Paper 1 Composition Writing.
However, it is almost impossible (especially for children) to learn every word in the dictionary. Children tend to forget words they do not use often – so how can parents help their children expand their vocabulary base? 🤔

🤓 With the use of flashcards, children learn words quickly and retain what they have learnt for a longer time. At The Alternative Story (T.A.S.), we provide our Primary students with a stack of vocabulary flashcards every academic term so that they can progressively build their word bank throughout the year.
Our T.A.S. flashcards for Primary school English employs a technique called mnemonics, which is “a system such as a pattern of ideas that helps us remember things easily”. Using mnemonics, our flashcards make it easy for children to remember the meaning of words at a glance. 👀
Let’s use the word ‘intermittently’ as an example – it means stopping and starting repeatedly and irregularly.

To use it in a sentence,
🌧️ The rain lasted intermittently throughout the day.
Imagine a tap that is dripping at irregular intervals… 💧 drip, drip, drip-drip-drip…
🧑🏫 At T.A.S., our Primary school English language teachers will guide the students on how to use their given flashcards and the corresponding mnemonics associated with each word. Parents at home can also use the flashcards to engage your child at home and reinforce the learning of new vocabulary.
With consistency and effort, your child will emerge at the end of the term with vocabulary that can WOW you! 💥😮🤩
